I bought one of these last year in my search for a good one handed folder that could pull double duty as an EDC knife as well as handling camp chores like cutting open packages and slicing food, etc. Much has been said about the knife's strong construction and ease of opening, all of which are true. The knife also cuts well and mine came razor sharp. The clip works well at hiding it in your pocket and seems sturdy in nature.

My main problem with the knife is that the rough grind leaves fine striations in the blade, which catches and holds food, especially cheese, a camping\backpacking staple. I found that wiping off the blade once it gets food particles in it is very difficult, as pieces of food remain stuck in the little striations. By comparison, a swiss army knife with its polished blade fares much better and is easier to deal with in the field. I live in bear country and having small pieces of cheddar stuck to my folding knife blade which the bear can smell at night can be a risky proposition!

I ended up buying a Gerber EZ Out one handed folder, which is roughly the same size as the Vantage but lighter by over an ounce and has a smooth finish on the blade. The EZ Out is also made in the USA and costs roughly the same yet excels at food prep along with cutting non-food items.

So all in all, the Vantage is a great folder but use it mainly for cutting things other than food (apples and oranges are probably fine, but stay away from most other foods). However, if you want an affordable US-made EDC in this size that can do it all, I'd highly recommend checking out the Gerber EZ Out.

Granted this knife was only around twenty dollars. So if you only have that to spend this is not a bad knife at all. it comes sharp looks nice. on the other hand there are a couple big problems with this knife. first off the centering, yes buck says we fixed the problem with the blade centering but how did they fix it? they loosened the pivot screw so now you either choose between a loose lockup or tighten it and get an un-centered blade. The other problem is deployment, its like they said hey should we use a thumb hole or a flipper? i got it lets put a little of both! but neither one really works that well, the holes hard to use and the flippers slippery and too small. Spend the 20 dollars on a Ka-bar or a kershaw.

I was worried because of reports of quality problems on early production models,but am happy to say my knife is perfect.The blade is sharp,perfectly centered when closed,solid as a rock when open,and has the Buck lifetime warranty.All you could ask for in a knife!It is now my every day carry knife.
